Email: The #1 Attack Vector
Given how much news attention has been given to recent malware and ransomware attacks worldwide, it should be no surprise that email remains the number one attack vector involved in cyber threats. Based on industry data, 91% of cyber-attacks are delivered via email and in 2016 alone, the number of ransomware variants increased by 30x (with an expected 10-50x increase in 2017).
91% of malware is delivered via email.
Organizations need to defend against these cyber threats by targeting them right at the source: email. As threats quickly and continuously evolve, previous defense mechanisms are no longer cutting it. Signature-based email systems, manual processes, sandboxing, and blacklists can’t keep up with the speed at which new ransomware variants are popping up. By the time one of these manual methods has identified a malware variant, cybercriminals have already claimed numerous victims and moved onto the next variant or delivery method.
